Glee Club Winter Update

Hello from wintery Ithaca!

What an incredible semester fall 2021 proved to be! After a year and a half of no live concerts and limited virtual performances, the Glee Club returned triumphantly to Ithaca without missing a beat. From our first performance at new student convocation during orientation week to our finale hurrah at Lessons and Carols in Sage Chapel, the Glee Club pulled together and rediscovered our musical solidarity. The Homecoming recording link can be found here and the Lessons and Carols recording link can be found here.

The start of the spring semester has already presented new challenges as we face the brief return to virtual meetings and new restrictions on in-person singing. However, the group has already displayed unwavering morale and excitement as we begin to prepare for our coming spring performances. Information regarding our upcoming performances are forthcoming at this time, and will be sent out in the near future.

While 2022 hasn’t started off in the way that we had hoped it would, I am constantly uplifted by the joy that each individual member has brought to rehearsal this past week. The Glee Club has shown time and time again that we will do whatever it takes to continue sharing the beauty of choral music, no matter the challenge. I look forward to sharing our accomplishments with you all this semester!

P.S. - A few things to do, while you’re here!

Yours in glee,
Samuel Schneider

Return to the Hill

Greetings from Ithaca!

With the return to in-person classes this fall, the Glee Club has finally been able to return to Ithaca in full force and rehearse regularly again. While initially short staffed, an incredible recruitment campaign (highlighted with over 130 total auditions for the choral program) has filled our ranks with over 20 new members that are raring to go!

While many of the Homecoming weekend events have been cancelled by the university, the Glee Club and Chorus Homecoming Concert has not been cancelled and we are still able to perform and enjoy music with you all! The concert will be on September 18th at 7:00 pm in Bailey Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students in advance, $18 for adults and $8 for students at the door. Tickets can be purchased at this link. The event will be livestreamed, and the link to the livestream can be found here.

In accordance with Cornell's guidelines, masks are required for everyone in attendance. Furthermore, while we traditionally invite alumni on stage for the singing of Cornell songs such as the alma mater, this year we are unable to extend this invitation in order to maintain a safe singing environment on stage. If you have any questions about Cornell's current safety policies and the COVID-19 status on-campus, feel free to reference the COVID-19 website for more information.

The last time the Glee Club performed live was in March of 2020. Little did we know that in less than a week we would be sent home for the remainder of the semester and that it would be 17 months until we could fully return to campus. I cannot wait to be with you all in Bailey this coming weekend as we celebrate our return through the beauty of music!

P.S. - A few things to do, while you’re here!

Yours in glee,
Samuel Schneider
